IN MORE recent times, he’s been slammed from pillar to post, but Justin Bieber must still have some fans somewhere after the often-controversial pop star scored his first ever US number one.
Biber’s new tune, What Do You Mean?, surged to number one on the on the Billboard 100 chart with a staggering 337,000 downloads.
The song is just the 23rd ever to begin at number one in the Hot 100’s 57-year history. (Bieber, 21, had previously ranked as high as No. 2 on the Hot 100 with Boyfriend in 2012.)
Bieber, of course, has recently dipped his toe back into the public arena after years of behaving badly.
The publicity blitz, which included an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and a teary MTV Video Music Awards performance (where he performed the song) have no doubt helped sales along.
He also set a new Spotify record (beating One Direction) with the song, garnering a massive 21 million streams in just five days. But is it much chop?
