Want to be the third wheel on a first date between young lawyers Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson?
When director/screenwriter Richard Tanne’s Southside With You hits theaters next year, viewers will be able to follow the couple on that fateful summer night out in Chicago.
Production recently began on Southside, which takes place on the night in 1989 when the president and first lady went on their first date, visiting the Art Institute of Chicago, taking in Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing and sharing a kiss at an ice cream parlor.
Actors Parker Sawyers and Tika Sumpter star in the lead roles and Sumpter also serves as a producer on the film.
Southside, billed as a “romantic dramedy,” is Tanne’s directorial debut.
